Victoria Police (VIC Pol) need your assistance. Now is a great time to voice your opinion!
Police play a critical role in communities across Victoria. According to VIC Pol, the duties undertaken by the police force include (but not limited to); preventing anti-social behaviour, dealing with community safety concerns, resolving disputes, attending accidents, investigating crime, enforcing traffic law, dealing with drug and alcohol affected people and attending critical incidents and emergencies.
As many in our community know, residents have been raising safety concerns for some time, particularly around Fitzroy Street and Acland Street, which have been in decline for some time. That’s the message many in the community want to voice to Police, from long and short-term residents, business owners and those visiting St Kilda on holidays, family visits and business trips.
Whilst the issues underlying homelessness, drug abuse and street violence are complex and require a myriad of services to support those that are legitimately vulnerable, residents hold very real concerns about the slow and sometimes absent Police response to 000 calls, and Police street presence to minimise anti-social behavior, drinking in public and using/dealing drugs in broad daylight. Are there sufficient resources for Police to do their job in the large area of the City of Port Phillip?
Police, Council and Community need to work together to ensure that residents feel safe and are safe walking the streets, businesses continue to operate without property damage or vagrants blocking their entrances, and our community is able to thrive.
The survey only takes a few minutes and runs for the month of April 2023.
