The Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS) opened the sailing season on Saturday 1 October and by all accounts those who participated had a wonderful day, and sailors are looking forward to the rest of the reason.

Matt Solly, RMYS general manager, prepared for the opening of our opening sailing season by dressing the building in traditional bunting. Members and guests who joined the festivities enjoyed lunch, the sail past and racing.  

Squadron Awards were given and had the burgee was unfurled by Councillor Andrew Bond and Councillor Christina Sirakoff, who joined us on our traditional Sail Past aboard Margaret Pearl. 

The Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, with a history of over 140 years, is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Victoria with a long list of historical firsts. Situated at St Kilda near the Melbourne central business district, it is regarded as the centre of aquatic events in Victoria.
