The Maria Island eBike Adventure shares the stories of contact between Tasmanian Aboriginal people and the first European explorers. Abel Tasman named the island Maria in 1642 after Maria van Dieman, wife of Anthony van Diemen, Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies in Batavia. Your story-based adventure connects you to the island’s convict inhabitants and their struggles to escape, along with the pioneering spirit of 19th century Italian entrepreneur, viticulturist and industrialist Diago Bernacchi and the visionary wildlife conservationists responsible for the protection of Maria as a National Park.
