    The artist writes of this work he created: "Over the years the sculpture has gained popularity and received awards locally and internationally: a Melbourne newspaper poll voted it the most popular sculpture in town. Recently it was included in an internet survey of the top 25 creative sculptures around the world.     Bendigo Art Gallery was founded in 1887. It is comprised of buildings constructed over four phases. The central building, now known as the Bolton Court, was constructed in 1867 by contractors Webb and Harlow to the design of the prominent Bendigo architectural firm Vahland and Getzschmann.

    In the late 1880s Bendigo architect WC Valhand supervised the conversion of the former Bendigo Volunteer Rifle’s orderly room in View Street into a new home for the Gallery’s collection.The Art Gallery was founded in 1887.

    Drury Court was added in 1897, then Abbott Court just eight years later following a plan devised by another leading local architect, William Beebe. These rooms were designed in the grand European tradition (notably the Tate Gallery, London) with polished wood floors, ornate plaster arches and cornices, and diffused natural sky-lighting through rooftop lantern towers.

    Cover of ALBERT PARK Melbourne Playground Albert Park Committee of Management (APCM) Folder published in the 1956 Olympic Games year.

    A copy was presented to every contestant, as well as being distributed to Park Users and others. Senator Kennelly presented my copy to me when South Melbourne Council appointed me as its representative on the APCM in 1973 and he was its Chairman. This is Peter Francis' copy.

    In the folder is a photo that reminded me of the remnant of Melbourne's cable car system that was then utilized in Albert Park as part of its fencing.

    It is no longer evident there, to my knowledge, and was possibly all removed when the Park became the venue for an Annual International Grand Prix event.

    Barry Fuhrman was one of many local youngsters who enjoyed utilizing part of it in 1943. Barry has pointed out that this was just before the American Army built their huge military equipment storage sheds in the Park during World War 2.

    The photo of the then use cable car cable in the Park, and one of the use that youngsters such as Barry Furhman gave to it shown below.

    Barry's photo was taken by 'one of my aunts' he advised, to describe the record of his truly historic photo.
